Alsace

Alsace (Alsace) is located on the left bank of the Rhine and is borders on the west toLorraine. It consists of the departments of Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin.
It is a colorful area with hills, mountains and plains that are interspersed with castles, vineyards and quaint villages like Riquewihr or Hunspach. The Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges and Regional Natural Park of Vosges du Nord are fantastic hiking areas.

The history of Alsace is inextricably linked to the history of Europe in a global perspective. There are beautiful cities each with its own character and a special way of life, such as Strasbourg's famous Cathedral of Notre-Dame and a wide range of museums, Colmar with the idyllic charm of Little Venice and among others the Museum Unterlinden and Mulhouse which in turn offers much fun and variety with the Musée National de l'Automobile, the Cité du Train and Parc Zoologique et Botanique. Several other museums reflect the turbulent history of Alsace.

In the whole of France one finds specialties from Alsace on the menu of renowned restaurants. A few of these specialties are: pain d'épices (gingerbread), kouglof (turban) and baeckeofe (casserole from the baker's oven), flammekueche (flambéed tart) and dishes based on munster (cheese). And then there are the famous wines from Alsace: the Sylvaner, Pinot blanc, pinot noir and pinot gris, Riesling and Gewurztraminer.
